A celebration of stories for World Book Day
What an amazing World Book Day we had at Highcliffe! The whole school celebrated the joy of reading with a day full of activities that had everyone, from the youngest to the oldest readers, completely immersed in books. The day began with a whole-school assembly, where we admired each other’s fantastic costumes and reflected on the importance of reading. We were even joined by MC Grammar, who performed a World Book Day rap that had us all nodding along, listening to every word!
One of the most creative parts of the day was the Potato Character Challenge! Families turned ordinary potatoes into 'spudtacular' book characters, from Harry Potter to The Gruffalo. The children voted for their favourites, and three winners received a special World Book Day badge.
Pupils and staff also dressed up as their favourite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life in our classrooms and corridors.
We had a special Story Time, where teachers dimmed the lights, and children got cosy to enjoy some fantastic storytelling. The excitement was palpable as we dived into the pages and were transported into a variety of different worlds.
Another highlight was Buddy Reading, where older pupils paired with younger children to share stories. Seeing the older children read with enthusiasm and the younger ones gaining confidence was heartwarming.
Classrooms buzzed with activities like puppet shows, acting out scenes from favourite stories and creating our own books.
A huge well done to everyone who took part—it was a day full of fun, creativity, and a love for reading! We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
