Diwali Celebrations

At Highcliffe Primary, we believe that teaching children about diversity and inclusion not only creates greater multicultural awareness but it encourages acceptance and helps prepare pupils to thrive in an increasing diverse world. Our pupils love learning about various cultures and faiths as part of our global curriculum.

Recently, our children celebrated Diwali (Festival of Lights celebrated by Hindus) and Bandi Chhor Divas (Day of Liberation celebrated by Sikhs). The children enjoyed having a non-uniform day, where they came to school in either traditional Indian or bright coloured clothes.

During the day, our pupils read the story of Rama and Sita from the Hindu perspective and the story of Bandi Chhor Divas from the Sikh perspective.

The children also participated in a variety of different activities to develop a rich cultural awareness of these festivals including making Rangoli patterns and making lanterns. We held a special assembly to mark the occasion and the children really enjoyed dressing up to mark this very important day in the Hindu and Sikh calendar.
